Croydon is an outer London borough bordering Surrey to the south and Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark to the north. Croydon is London’s southern-most borough and covers an area of 87 square kilometres.
In 1086 Croydon was a small market town with 365 inhabitants. Since then it has become the most populous London borough, (ONS Census 2021), with one of London’s biggest retail and commercial centres. Croydon has substantially developed infrastructure (rail, tram and road links) and more than 120 parks and open spaces.
The Borough Profile aims to help public sector organisations and residents better understand the profile of the communities living in Croydon. By creating regular snapshots of Croydon’s demographics, based on nationally sourced data, it helps to give an overall view of Croydon highlighting key issues arising from that data.
