Area Assessment
Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA)
CAA looks at how well local services are working together to improve the quality of life for local people. It will make straightforward independent information available to people about their local services, helping them make informed choices and influence decisions. From November 2009 straightforward independent information will be available to people about their local services, helping them make informed choices and influence decisions.
CAA:
- is about people and places
- will give people a snapshot of life in their local area each year
- will help local services improve quality of life in their area
- will help people understand if they are getting value for money from their local services
On 9 December 2009 the Audit Commission's reporting website for the CAA, OnePlace, went live. The site includes independent information about how councils, police, health services and others are tackling the major issues in every area in England.
Croydon's first evaluation under the CAA says that it is a place where public agencies are committed to improving value for money and residents' satisfaction levels. The Commission also awarded Croydon an important 'green flag' - a sign of exceptional performance or innovation that others can learn from - for 'Economic partnerships for future prosperity'. Croydon received no "red flags" which signal significant concerns about performance and prospects.

185 national indicators will come into force on 1 April 2008. The remaining 13 indicators will be subject to further consultation in the summer before final definitions for them can be released.
